Using an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme)
Our multi-skilled team can support employees deal with a wide range of issues, including:
Our Employee Assistance Programme offers structured counselling to staff, management, (and their families if requested by the company) who may be experiencing unresolved problems which adversely affect their performance at work. In our experience, counselling can help not only to reduce absenteeism but also to improve productivity and personal effectiveness. The programme can also help to improve staff relations and reduce disciplinary action.
How does an EAP work & what does it cost?
Companies may subscribe to the service by paying a 6 or 12 month fee based on the number of staff they employ. Each employee would be given a card with a contact number to call should they require counselling. Alternatively, individual referrals could be made via the company’s HR or Personnel department and a fee agreed for each individual client. In either case we would recommend up to 6 counselling sessions being available at no cost to the individual and an appointment would be given within 5 working days of the initial contact.
Valuable Feedback for the Company
The company will receive useful statistical feedback and information regarding the general issues that staff are requiring Counselling for, as well as the level of uptake of the service. The individual session will be confidential – this is crucial to ensure that staff use the service when they are not addressing their difficulties elsewhere. Any issues that appear to be affecting groups of staff, such as harassment, could be fed back to the company without breaching individuals’ confidentiality.
If referrals were made via the HR or Personnel department it would be their responsibility to maintain and respect staff confidentiality. Therapists would maintain the client’s confidence in accordance with the British Association for Counselling Code of Ethics.
How effective is the service?
Brief therapy has proved to be very effective. The counselling sessions work towards precise goals, which are established during the early stages of counselling. This helps staff to feel more empowered, enabling them to quickly move towards working more effectively. Clients would be referred for longer-term help where appropriate through the company or to external agencies if necessary.
Where does the counselling take place?
The sessions can be held off site at our Centre or elsewhere in order to maintain privacy. If necessary the sessions could be arranged within the company’s premises, but only if a suitable, private location can be made available.
