Certificate in Counselling Skills
A year-long part-time course, run on Thursday evenings, which gives a full and deep introduction to Counselling theory and practice. Successful completion of this 150-hour course allows students to apply for the Diploma course. Click on the course title for more details. This is anticipated as being a Level 3 course on the National Framework (see below).

Diploma in Counselling
This course runs for just over two years (part-time) and is open to applicants from a variety of routes, including the 150 hour Certificate course, or alternatives. The course is designed to prepare people for work as a Counsellor. This is anticipated as being a Level 4 course on the National Framework (see below).

The National Framework of Qualifications
In September 2002 Counselling courses were added to the National Framework of Qualifications, which aims to ensure parity between courses. If you would like to know more go to the QCA website.

Diploma in Supervision
This course starts in October each year and runs monthly on two day sessions (on Monday & Tuesday). The course is taught by Stephanie Pugsley and externally moderated and accredited by the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy and UKCP registration
We are hoping to offer a Gestalt Masters course at BCC in the near future.

Some general details about our Training

All our courses are recognised and accredited by external organisations. Our Certificate and Diploma together satisfy the training requirements of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), which are part of their accreditation requirements.

All the courses mentioned above lead to a qualification in their own right, and you may join the programme at the level most suited to your experience and training.

Our Counselling Training is based mainly in a Humanistic and Integrative background.
